Summary:

Testimony of Sylvia Haven on media ownership, presented to the FCC in Seattle, Nov. 30 2006 [transcription]

Full Story:

My name is Sylvia Haven. Nothing would have persuaded me to come out in the slushy road where my car got stuck to get here this evening unless it was a matter of life and death. That may sound like hyperbole, but consider this. If the media were allowed to concentrate into fewer and fewer corporations, and if those corporations were to support the agenda of an administration that was bent on war and then if the public were persuaded by that media to support a needless war, thousands would die. Three thousand Americans and some hundreds of thousand of other precious lives – but wait, I think that’s already happened! But, maybe with your support and the Federal Communications Commission, we can have a more diverse and fair media and the next war won’t happen.
