Mar 20: Jean Kilbourne on advertising's images of women
Jean Kilbourne on "The Naked Truth: Advertising's Image of Women"
Thursday, March 20, 7pm
The Bush School, Gymnasium
We are each exposed to more than 5,000 ads every day, yet most of us believe we are not influenced by advertising. This presentation illustrates that ads sell a great deal more than products. They sell values and concepts of success and worth, love, sexuality, and normalcy. Drawing on more than 30 years of research, Jean Kilbourne explores the relationship of advertising images to problems in society, such as violence, sexual abuse, eating disorders, racism, and sexism. The Diversity Speaker Series is focused on exploring issues related to diversity, privilege, and oppression. Each year we invite experts in these areas to speak and engage with members of The Bush School and the greater Seattle community. These events are free and open to the public. For more information about The Bush School’s Diversity Speaker Series, please visit www.bush.edu/diversity. For seating reservations and if you have any questions, please call Dr. Eddie Moore Jr., Director of Diversity, at 206-326-7731 or eddie.moorejr@bush.edu.
