WTO+10 People's Summit: Global Justice Forward

10 years after the Seattle WTO, much remains at stake for global policy on climate, economics, trade and justice. Join us to reclaim and amplify our voices with a shared vision for a healthy planet and people. Let's harness the spirit of the 1999 WTO protests in Seattle with a renewed commitment to move global justice forward!

Global Justice Forward! On Nov 30th the World Trade Organization (WTO) will host a "restart" meeting in Geneva – 10 years to the day from when we shut down the WTO!  On Dec 7th, the United Nations Conference on Climate Change opens in Copenhagen.  These are uncertain times and much is at stake: Join us to reclaim and amplify our voices with a shared vision  for a healthy planet and people.  Let's harness the spirit of the 1999 WTO protests in Seattle with a renewed commitment to move global justice forward!  Friday Nov 27 through Sunday Nov 29: three days of plenaries, workshops and a cross-sector strategy session, held at Seattle University, New Hope Baptist Church & Town Hall. 
 
Confirmed speakers include Amy Goodman, Democracy Now!, Leo Gerard, United Steel-Workers President, Dena Hoff, National Family Farm Coalition & Via Campesina, Eric Holt-Gimenez & Annie Shattuck, Food First, Rev. Robert Jeffrey, Black Dollar Days Task Force, David Korten (When Corporations Rule the World, Agenda For a New Economy), Thea Lee, AFL-CIO, Sylvia Orduño,  Michigan Welfare Rights Organization and National Planning Committee, U.S. Social Forum, and The Yes Men

Workshop topics cover a range of topics bearing on climate change, trade policy, community organizing for justice, and addressing privilege and racism. Here are a few workshops led by RTM and our community partners (click here for a complete list): Reclaim the Media is hosting a panel on Grassroots Media and Global Justice, with DeeDee Halleck (Deep Dish TV), Norm Stockwell (WORT-FM Madison) and others; Riseup Networks leads a workshop on The Revolution Will Not Be Twittered; Pinay sa Seattle leads a session on Art & Activism: Being a Cultural Worker; Hidmo presents a panel on Cross-cultural alliances and activism

  • Saturday Evening: “Reclaiming Community” Panel, Dinner & Music at New Hope Baptist Church, 6 - 10pm
  • Sunday Nov 29: Workshops & "Catch the Buzz: Cross-Pollinating our Movements" Panel & Strategy Session at Seattle University, 10am-5pm
  • Sunday evening: Closing Panel, "Global Justice Forward!" Town Hall, 6pm
