Community Media Specialist:
The Community Media Specialist performs duties in the following areas, community outreach, video production/post-production support, training and facilitation, community media organizing, curriculum development.
Training:
Teach video production, post-production and related workshops including, single and multi camera video production, and non-linear editing to a diverse public. Design and instruct intermediate and advanced level curricula in media literacy, production and post-production aesthetics, documentary production and other areas related to community media. Plan, schedule and facilitate ad hoc opportunities for advancing the creativity, effectiveness and production value of MNN producer efforts. Administrate workshops for community-based organizations including class scheduling, workshop documentation and data entry as well as reserve and oversee production equipment assigned to the department.
Community Outreach:
Perform outreach to diverse Manhattan based community, non-profit, cultural and public interest organizations. Develop and strengthen MNN’s relations with other community media organizations. Organize, develop, mentor and provide training and production resources and support to various Manhattan communities. Encourage utilization of MNN’s public access resources by the diverse communities representing Manhattan.
Other Duties as Assigned:
The Community Media Specialist reports directly to the Director of MNN’s Community Media Department. The C.M.S. may also interact with various staff/board committees and take on department related activities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Experience with not for profit, community organizing, development, cultural and/or public interest organizations. Video production and post-production expertise as a video-maker in single and/or multi-camera environments. Experience with non-linear editing systems. Training experience, especially in the area of adult education. Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills in training and outreach capacities, good organizational skills and the ability to work with limited supervision. Ability to work with basic office and database software.
Salary:
This is an exempt, salaried full time position with full benefit package. Evening and weekend work required.
