Last week I got the chance to interview media critic and author Norman Solomon last week for Seattle community radio station KBCS-FM (download the complete, unedited interview from our audio archive). Solomon was in town to promote his recent activist memoir, Made Love Got War, and to introduce screenings of the documentary film War Made Easy based on his 2005 book of the same name. We hear that the film, released on DVD last year, is about to get a theatrical run in New York. You can set up your own grassroots screening at warmadeeasythemovie.org.

I also appeared as a guest on KPFA's Sunday Morning show this weekend, along with Free Press policy director Ben Scott (listen here). We talked about next steps in the fight to roll back the FCC's recent decision to allow corporations to combine newspapers and broadcast stations in the same cities; the conversation (with host Mitch Jezerich) also touched on other upcoming media policy fights.

While I made sure to name-check the work of Bay-area institution Media Alliance and especially the Youth Media Council (now renamed the Center for Media Justice), I would like to have placed more emphasis on the importance of community organizing on media and social justice issues. An hour goes by so quickly!
