Submitting Stories to Listen Up! Northwest
About Listen Up! Northwest:
Listen Up! Northwest is a regional public affairs/cultural radio program featuring stories of communities in action across the Northwest. Each broadcast features the work of skilled community radio producers and artists from throughout our region, which includes (but isn't strictly limited to) Alaska, British Columbia, Alberta, Washingon, Idaho, Montana and Oregon.
To contribute features/interviews:
Anyone who produces features and interviews within and/or about the Northwest is welcome to contribute their work to Listen Up! Northwest.
What we're looking for:
• Listen Up! Northwest airs stories about communities and individuals in the Northwest region
• Particular areas of concern include, but are not limited to: environmental issues, economic justice, immigrants rights, indigenous rights, women's rights
• Stories that will be of interest to listeners across the Northwest region, even if they're primarily centered on one local community
• Stories of enduring interest (stations are likely to carry the program on slightly varied schedules)
• Feature/interview/art pieces, 2 to 8 minutes in length (contact the producer if you have a longer interview or feature that you'd like to pitch)
Submissions and editing process:
• The Listen Up! Northwest producer both assigns stories and accepts story pitches from contributors
• Pitches can be made at any time and the producer will try to respond to them as soon as possible
• The Listen Up! Northwest story-filing deadline is no later than one week before airdate
• Listen Up! Northwest reserves the right to edit every submission before it is accepted for broadcast
• Edits are conducted by email or telephone
• To pitch a new piece, send scripts by email to the producer at yuko@reclaimthemedia.org
• To pitch a pre-produced piece, email the following to the producer --
* audio in mp3 format at 128kpbs quality or higher
* contributor name
* mailing address
* email address
* daytime and evening phone numbers
Payment:
• Story submissions are paid for if a piece airs
• Listen Up! Northwest contributors receive $35 per story that airs
• Listen Up! Northwest sends out contributor payments on a monthly schedule
• Contributors are not paid residuals for additional use of their work
• Listen Up! Northwest does not pay for travel expenses, phone use, etc.
• When submitting for the first time, be sure to submit a W-9 form

The producer will send you information about the licensing agreement if you are interested in contributing to the program.

Airing Listen Up! Northwest on Your Station
To pick up the program for air:
• The mp3 file of the weekly, 29:00 minute program will be available by Thursday night at 11:59pm each week.
• You can pick up the program file at www.nwcommunityradio.org
• Programs should generally air within a week of the day the program is uploaded.
