Making Waves: Radio For Radicals Oct. 21

As part of Reclaim the Media's Community Media Film Festival, Allan and Leslie from Chicago's Radios Populares will be in Seattle to provide a hands-on workshop on making grassroots/low-power radio. The workshop takes place 4:30-8:30pm on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2020 Cycle (2020 E. Union, Seattle). Here's RaPo's description of the workshop:

Low-power FM radio demystified! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll get a basic overview of how radio works and a chance to set up a station and go on air. You can build a microtransmitter or learn how to use free software to put together a radio program. Come and see how accessible media technology can be and dream about the possibilities in your community. No experience necessary. This workshop is presented by members of Radios Populares (RaPo), a Chicago-based solidarity collective that collaborates with communities struggling for social justice to build low-power FM community radio stations. RaPo has more recently turned its attention to providing workshops in the US with the hope of encouraging communities to take media into their own hands.

Workshop participation is free (donations gratefully accepted). Because of space restrictions, workshop will be limited to 30 participants. [REGISTRATION CLOSED]
