Venezuela to back Radiosur plan at economic summit

[Prensa Latina]

Venezuela plans to propose the creation of Radiosur, a multi-State radio station, during the coming South Common Market (MERCOSUR) Summit in Brazil, local sources informed Friday.

Helena Salcedo, general director of National Radio of Venezuela, said it will be an alternative media based on "responsibility, ethics, and particularly democratization of information."

According to a Telesur report, the proposal aims to bring regional peoples together and allow all member countries to be in contact and informed on their respective realities.

The initiative was approved in principle in March 2006 by delegates of state and community radio stations from Argentina, Ecuador, Chile, Cuba, and Venezuela.
